About The Position

At the Kentucky Department of Corrections, the Division of Education plays a crucial role supporting the department and the reentry of offenders back into the community. The mission of the Division of Education is to prepare every offender through the advancement of academic achievement and work ready skills for successful reentry. As education corrections professionals, it is our job to assist in the rehabilitation and reentry of offenders by working within the department, with community partners, and state agencies to increase community safety and reduce recidivism rates. The administrative specialist senior will provide support to the Roederer Correctional Complex Education Center in planning, facilitating, and coordinating educational opportunities within the correctional environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of professional, administrative, or business experience.
  • Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Additional administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as administrative liaison and point of contact for the Education Center at the institution for other programming, facility leadership, and for all school related activities.
  • Responsible for acting on behalf of the Corrections Regional Education Administrator (CREA) when he or she is away from the school.
  • Plans and organizes all administrative duties of the office (i.e., record keeping, inmate state pay, meeting minutes, maintain incentives, notification memos, etc.).
  • Utilizes Kentucky Offender Management System (KOMS), Technical Education Database System (TEDS), and SharePoint in addition to all other office equipment and computer software applications in order to process and account for inmate student attendance and program enrollment criteria, including educational history verification for inmates.
  • Completes school purchases and inventory including teaching supplies and vocational program machinery maintenance records.
  • Maintains credentials with Pearson VUE® as a Certified Test Administrator in order to proctor student GED Exams and Ready-Test® Exams in partnership with KY Adult Education.
  • Schedules, accounts for, proctors, and administers GED Exams to inmates while maintaining records in GED Manager.
  • Develops and implements processes to assist in the complex task of GED accreditation for institutions.
  • Gathers, compiles, maintains, and coordinates various data, data analysis, and reporting as required by the institution and central office, including grant reports, academic, vocational, and other reporting requirements.
  • Maintains certification in the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) administration.
  • Administers the TABE testing program to include registration, testing sessions, scoring, dissemination of results, and recording in KOMS.
  • Provides security daily by overseeing building janitors and making security rounds.
  • Enters attendance for building janitors in KOMS.
  • Prepares supply orders for building custodial needs and submits work orders for repairs needed in the Education Center.
  • Performs other assigned duties as assigned.
