About The Position

The Department of Economics, housed within the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Administrative Specialist IV. This department is known for its innovative research resources, including the Experimental Economics Laboratory, and its strong multidisciplinary approach to policy analysis, with an emphasis on policy and evaluation. The faculty specializes in various areas of economics and focuses on the empirical evaluation of public policies and programs. The Administrative Specialist IV will provide comprehensive administrative, human resources, and operational support for the department, overseeing staff supervision, coordinating faculty HR operations, and serving as the primary office and building contact to ensure efficient daily operations. The role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years of related experience, or a combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of staff, including hiring, terminating, training, approving leave, completing annual evaluations, disciplinary actions, stipend entry, position review forms, requests for title changes, Taleo entries, placing job ads, new hire orientation, and assigning office space and equipment.
  • Overseeing Admin Spec-Academic, Admin Spec-Admin, and affiliated student assistants.
  • Managing HR functions for faculty, including setting up the faculty activity grid, updating HR information, entering MSS transactions for hires, terminations, data updates, and supplemental pay.
  • Completing visa requests, handling visiting scholar paperwork, serving as the point of contact for LOA, FMLA, and TCS.
  • Administering the promotion and tenure process, Third Year reviews, Cumulative Reviews, and effort reporting.
  • Acting as the faculty recruiting contact, placing job ads, maintaining personnel files, setting up interviews, and processing PTI and GRA hire MSS transactions and paperwork.
  • Coordinating student letters of recommendation and GRA desk assignments.
  • Hiring sponsored employees for grants and assisting the Department Chair with merit allocations.
  • Assigning office space, coordinating computers and furniture, and maintaining equipment logs.
  • Managing key control authority and ensuring website and office lists are updated.
  • Addressing parking questions and coordinating fire drills.
  • Overseeing office cleanliness and ensuring EEOE documents are posted.
  • Maintaining the front desk.
