This position is located at SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 525 Layfette Street, Georgetown, SC 29440. Under direct supervision, you will perform a variety of routine administrative duties / clinical support with a moderate level of individual and patient accountability in the Georgetown Front Office for Waccamaw Center for Mental Health. You will be applying written or unwritten policies to perform various task: that have a significant impact on the daily operations of the Georgetown Office.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience; or an associate degree in secretarial science or other related field; or three (3) years of clerical experience.
  • Have general knowledge of office practices and use of office equipment along with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
  • Be flexible, cooperative, have the ability to perform multiple tasks and manage time in a proficient and effective manner in the course of carrying out day to day duties.
  • Have good use of judgement and discretion.
  • Be able to pass Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for processing intakes, opening and discharging patient cases. This includes data entry into the Avatar system.
  • Responsible for checking the status of patient insurance eligibility (Medicaid, Medicare, Private, etc.). on a daily basis prior to appointment and accurately inputting all changes into Avatar.
  • Responsible for updating all patient demographic in charts and ensuring transfer of information into Avatar.
  • Scan all patient information into Avatar.
  • Responsible for updating the intake log for new and readmitted patients and updating all consents in Avatar.
  • Address concerns with patients about insurance and other billing concerns.
  • Maintain charts and documentation in accordance with State, Federal, local, BHDD-OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF standards.
