About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Nursing Supervisor, this position is located in the medical section at Warren Correctional Institution, Manson, NC, Warren County which houses approximately 800 minimum, medium, and close custody male offenders.

Requirements

  • Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement.
  • The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Documented knowledge of psychological/medical terminology

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates work orders for the medical/dental sections
  • Copy offender’s records as requested by Medical Records and other agencies
  • Perform any clerical duties needed in the medical section to include: Mail, answering phones and keeping areas in the medical section organized.
  • Prepare DC-704’s for outside pharmacy purchases, medical equipment and supplies, special medical items such as offender shies, headphones, special clothing, etc.
  • Serves as safety inspector for medical and dental areas
  • Takes minutes for medical staff meetings
  • Scan documents into charts for provider reviews, copy charts, key UR’s for offender’s services, enter nursing instructions for procedures, and complete purchase care functions using HERO.
  • Key UR’s and ER and hospital admissions
  • Assist with scheduling, cancelling, and rescheduling appointments as needed.
  • Works closely with transportation staff with issues that arise with medical trips
  • Will use various office equipment; computer, copier, fax, shredder, telephone, and scanners.
  • Will utilize various computer programs to accomplish daily task.
