About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Maintenance Department, this position will perform a variety of office assistant tasks in support of the maintenance department. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook
  • Experience using Microsoft Word
  • Experience using various types of office machines
  • Experience using clerical and/or secretarial skills
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience Or An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direct assistance to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor and providing clerical assistance to maintenance staff
  • Completing Request To Post forms, assisting with maintenance purchases, and entering requisitions into the NC E-procurement system.
  • Submitting, approving, and closing work orders in the Maintenance Management System (MMS) and maintaining the maintenance spending budget and maintenance files.
  • Typing and entering offender incentive wages, reports, correspondence memos, and letters. Answering incoming phone calls and directing them to the appropriate staff.
  • Assisting staff and/or the public in a professional manner in resolving issues.
  • Completing other various office duties as deemed necessary by the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.
