About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! The position is an Administrative Specialist I located at the Central Prison Healthcare Complex in Raleigh, which houses approximately 1,315 close-custody male offenders. This position is responsible for providing clerical, administrative, and technical support in the Mental Health administrative area. This individual will serve as the receptionist for all staff located in Mental Health and will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including developing reports and schedules, filing, directing calls to the appropriate person, managing the Mental Health Director's calendar, recording minutes, processing memos and letters, and other related duties. This position requires flexibility in learning new procedures and is periodically called upon to meet deadlines or address critical needs. Constant use of a computer, copier, fax, scanner, and other office equipment is necessary to generate reports, place orders, and communicate.

Requirements

  • Documented knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs
  • Documented experience in creating and developing reports.
  • Documented knowledge of maintaining files in an easily retrievable manner.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of office assistant/secretarial experience
