About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class provide office management services for the Associate Warden for Programs with approximately 74 employees to include Programs, Inmate Classification, Chaplaincy Services, Mental Health Services, Medical Services, Dental Services & Diagnostic Services. Key Duties Include: - Composing correspondence independent of rough drafts provided by the Associate Warden and other Section Heads when directed. – Composing correspondence directed to offenders, staff, the general public as well as various agency departments. - Processes and acts on confidential information - Maintains calendar for Associate Warden for Programs - Schedules appointments and coordinates mail delivery for the section heads. - Prepares documents and correspondence by transcribing dictation as well as independent composition and prepares minutes of meetings. - Provides confidential clerical support to the Program Director I, Programs Supervisor, Case Managers, and Medical Staff, including the Nurse Supervisor, Lead Nurses and Medical Providers.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate and apply this knowledge in performance of administrative tasks; ability to explain and interpret information to clients/customers and staff.
  • Ability to compile, assimilate and organize both printed and electronic information; ability to apply knowledge of data collection, storage, organization, manipulation and/or analysis of data.
  • Ability to utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs.
  • Ability to clearly convey information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively in written form; ability to adjust language or terminology to meet the needs of the audience; ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Management would prefer someone with extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and be familiar with OPUS on the internet.
