About The Position

The Department of Mental Health is seeking an experienced and strategic Administrative Services Director to lead and coordinate a broad range of administrative functions in support of the Rural Health Transformational project. This time-limited position will work closely with executive leadership and cross-departmental teams to ensure efficient operations, strong fiscal management, and effective program delivery. The position is responsible for leading special projects, supporting decision-making, and ensuring continuous improvement of administrative functions. The Director will evaluate systems, policies, and services, conduct or oversee studies, and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Responsibilities include directing and participating in budget development and monitoring of the programs, as well as overseeing contracts, grant agreements, and program initiatives. The work accomplished by this position is directly linked to the Department of Mental Health's mission to promote mental health as a vital part of overall well-being by advancing prevention, early intervention, and recovery-focused care. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or public administration, office administration or a related field AND three (3) years or more of professional-level experience performing and supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.
  • Bachelor's degree AND five (5) years or more of professional-level experience performing and supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.
  • Master's degree in accounting, business or public administration, office administration or a related field AND one (1) year or more of professional-level experience performing and supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.
  • Two years of full-time college coursework or associate's degree AND seven (7) years or more of professional-level experience performing and supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.
  • High School diploma or equivalent AND nine (9) years or more of professional-level experience performing and supervising (directly or indirectly) administrative functions for a moderate sized office, department or agency.
  • One (1) year or more of experience as an Administrative Services Manager III with the State of Vermont.
  • Only administrative work experience is qualifying. Administrative support includes those functions which keep the organization running or provide the resources for others to provide the programmatic work (e.g., accounting, budget management, grant administration, finance, human resources, payroll, purchasing, or space management).
  • Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position.
  • Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
