About The Position

To be responsible for providing administrative operations, project coordination, and legislative workflow support for the Executive Office of Commerce. The position will involve supporting high-priority agency initiatives, conducting research, managing internal coordination, tracking deadlines, and organizing critical work products. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Policy or designee, with latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and electronic document management systems.
  • Familiarity with, or a strong aptitude to quickly learn, the Rhode Island General Assembly legislative process, committee structures, and legislative tracking.
  • Ability to format complex documents, legislative summaries, spreadsheets, and work products with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain professionalism under tight deadlines, including during the legislative session.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state officials, colleagues, external partners, and the general public.
  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience providing administrative, legislative, legal, project coordination, or policy-focused support in a government agency, legislative office, legal setting, nonprofit, or similar organization.
  • Any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support and coordinate agency projects and initiatives; conduct research; proofread, format, and organize complex policy briefs, statutory summaries, and other documents; and ensure work products are accurate, timely, and aligned with formatting guidelines.
  • Serve as the administrative hub for the legislative team; coordinate logistics for committee preparation; format official testimony; and maintain the internal tracking system for General Assembly bills, hearings, amendments, and statutory deadlines.
  • Provide operational support to the communications team; format internal updates and external communications; and assist with logistics and staffing for events, press conferences, and meetings.
  • Assist with meeting scheduling and logistics, draft communications and correspondence, maintain internal workflow trackers, and support office operations as needed.
  • Do related work as required.
