About The Position

The Administrative Scale Buyer serves as a front-line representative for our retail recycling centers, handling both administrative tasks and the purchasing of incoming metals. This role is responsible for inspecting, weighing, grading, and purchasing scrap material from customers, while also managing the related transaction records, inventory tracking, and shipping coordination. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of administrative or operations-related experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and basic accounting or POS systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy in recordkeeping.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and operate equipment safely.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
  • Associate degree in business or related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Input all transactions into computer systems accurately, including generating invoices and bills of lading.
  • Prepare and distribute necessary shipping/receiving documentation.
  • Set up new accounts and manage daily cash, check, and credit procedures in compliance with company policy.
  • Maintain required records of incoming and outgoing shipments and daily yard inventory.
  • Engage with customers at the scale to inspect, identify, and grade incoming scrap materials.
  • Accurately weigh and record all purchases using scale systems and internal software.
  • Sort materials by type, remove non-conforming items, and upgrade materials when possible.
  • Provide pricing and complete purchase transactions in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Coordinate truck traffic in and out of the yard, ensuring timely and safe operations.
  • Assist in packaging and preparing material for shipment according to sales orders.
  • Operate equipment (e.g., hi-lo, loader, small manual tools) as needed.
  • Follow safety and radiation protocols and report any anomalies or concerns promptly.
  • Keep the scale house, office, and work area clean and organized.
