About The Position

Support the Zero Waste efforts through training and supervision of student interns, while working on Zero Waste projects and event support throughout The University of Texas at Austin and the JJ Pickle Research Campus locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus one year of directly related experience working with students or in a sustainability program.
  • Student leadership experience will count toward the one year of experience.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and around bees.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work with waste, including recycling, landfill, compost, and batteries.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class "C" Texas driver's license.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • More than one year of experience leading students in sustainability programs.
  • Graphic design and social media experience, including the use of Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Familiarity with Excel and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, decision-making, critical thinking, and good record-keeping.
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to prioritize multiple projects concurrently.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the student intern program, including hiring, training, supervision, and performance feedback.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Zero Waste Coordinator to design, implement, and maintain zero waste initiatives, documentation, and reporting tools.
  • Collaborate on waste audits, waste bin placement and labeling, zero waste event support, and other program activities as needed.
  • Coordinate sales of consumable supplies, provide event consultations and training, monitor waste stations, and transport collected materials to designated disposal and diversion areas.
  • Develop materials and engage students, staff, and faculty to increase diversion on campus.
  • Provide prompt, excellent technical assistance to clients requiring resources or event support.
  • Represent the department professionally in all interactions, including presentations and trainings.
  • Spearhead content creation, audience analysis, and campaign execution for the @utzerowaste social media accounts.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Occasional overtime is required to support organizational goals and objectives.
