This is a contractual, position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Forest Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year. Two (2) Long-Term Contractual Vacancies; Full-time; 12 Month Contract with possibility of renewal GRADE 13. These positions will serve a multi-county territory in Southern Maryland, including Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s counties. Work location will vary based on assigned territory and program needs. This position implements the Maryland Forest Service tree planting program, including the 5 Million Trees initiative established by the Tree Solutions Now Act of 2021. Working under general supervision, the position independently coordinates outreach, site development, planting plans, procurement, contractors, volunteers, post-planting maintenance, monitoring, and program records for tree planting projects on public and private lands. The position develops partnerships and secures eligible planting sites, ensures required landowner commitments and project documentation are completed, and helps translate statewide tree planting goals into completed and maintained projects. The position also supports seed collection for the State Tree Nursery and GIS-based targeting and reporting. This work directly supports the Forest Service mission to restore, manage, and protect Maryland's trees, forests, and forested ecosystems and to connect people with the land. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Forest Service, is currently accepting applications for two (2) Tree Planting Specialists to support the implementation of the 5 Million Trees Initiative, a 10-year program established by the 2021 Tree Solutions Now Act. Positions will perform outreach to community groups and landowners, provide technical assistance to accomplish tree planting projects, complete site inventories and reporting tasks, and support the continued care and management of newly established trees and forests. Work may include tree seed collection with volunteers or staff. Projects will be on public and private land, and cover urban and rural settings. Particular focus will be placed on overburdened and underserved communities where the establishment of trees can lead to a wide range of public health and environmental benefits. The positions will be part of a diverse, statewide team and will report to field offices with regional forestry staff (locations in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s counties).
