About The Position

This is a part-time position, up to a maximum of 1,500 hours annually, approximately 29 hours per week. The role is located at Virginia Tech's Tidewater Agricultural Research & Extension Center in the town of Holland, VA, in the City of Suffolk. The duties include greeting the public, managing supplies and purchasing cards, handling fiscal paperwork and inventory records, and providing comprehensive program and office support for all research and extension staff at the center. Additional fiscal tasks may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Word processing experience
  • typing skills
  • familiarity with MS Word
  • familiarity with WordPerfect
  • familiarity with MS Outlook
  • familiarity with PowerPoint
  • familiarity with Excel
  • experience with front office receptionist/secretarial duties
  • experience meeting the public

Nice To Haves

  • Accounting and budget management skills
  • Basic graphic design skills in development of promotional materials

Responsibilities

  • greeting the public in person and referring them to the appropriate personnel
  • ordering and receiving of materials and supplies for all programs
  • management/reconciliation of purchasing cards (P-cards)
  • filing of fiscal paperwork
  • managing record keeping for TAREC inventory
  • providing program and office support for all research and extension staff located at Tidewater AREC
  • other tasks may be assigned related to fiscal matters
