About The Position

This position functions as an experienced administrative law examiner with responsibility for presiding over and performing a full range of administrative hearings relating to the regulatory authority, rules, and procedures of the assigned department or agency. Extensive independent judgment is used to make decisions in carrying out assignments that have substantial impact on services or programs. Rendered decisions are based on findings of fact and/or legal interpretations and conclusions. Primary, though not exclusive, case type is unemployment appeals. Requirements

  • Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.
  • Two years of professional experience in legal work, including one year equivalent to an Administrative Law Examiner 14 or Administrative Law Specialist 14, or two years of experience as an attorney.
  • Membership in good standing in the Michigan State Bar.
  • Submission of a resume, cover letter, official J.D. transcripts, and a recent professional business writing sample from the last 3 years (with confidential information redacted, if necessary).

Responsibilities

  • Presiding over and performing a full range of administrative hearings relating to the regulatory authority, rules, and procedures of the assigned department or agency.
  • Making decisions based on findings of fact and/or legal interpretations and conclusions.
  • Handling unemployment appeals as a primary case type.
