The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest academic department at both BWH and MGH, supporting a balanced portfolio of clinical services, biomedical research, and education. It is a Harvard Medical School (HMS)-affiliated academic department with over 1,900 faculty members, approximately 20 combined divisions plus research institutes, over 500 trainees in accredited programs, nearly $695 million in annual total direct research expenditures, and annual operating revenue exceeding $1.15 billion dollars across both hospital and physician organizations.
