About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! This position is located at Caswell Correctional Center, and will report to the Administrative Officer I. Caswell Correctional Center is in Blanch, NC in Caswell County and is a medium custody, male felon unit with a maximum capacity of 484 offenders.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Documented knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite 365
  • Documented knowledge of handling mail and/or mailroom operation
  • Requires vast knowledge of Division of Public Safety/Adult Corrections and institutional standard operating procedures and policies governing the handling of all mail and parcels, disposition of unauthorized property and the Offender Banking System.
  • Requires a big degree of confidentiality, honesty and trustworthiness.

Responsibilities

  • Processing, reviewing and distributing all outgoing and incoming mail, packages, legal mail, certified mail and courier mail at this facility.
  • Maintaining security of the facility by searching and reviewing all incoming mail and when applicable and all outgoing mail for unauthorized items (contraband and correspondence deemed a threat to the safe, secure and orderly function of the facility).
  • Opens, searches and distributes US mail and courier mail each day as well as bus mail.
  • Delivered to both staff and inmates at this facility
  • Computer skills required to work with Text Behind and GTL programs sorts and distribute large quantities of interoffice staff correspondence and mail.
  • Maintain a Security Threat Group listing and utilizes this list to determine censorship of outgoing and incoming mail and packages.
  • Process indigent inmate mail accesses and maintains the Daily Welfare Report to determine indigent eligibility.
  • Responsible for entering and recording all trust fund deposits, cashier’s checks, and certified checks and employee canteen deposits.
