About The Position

This is a promotional-only position for current Rowland Unified School District employees who have passed probation. There is one immediate full-time position available, with tentative hours of 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, forty (40) hours per week, twelve (12) months per year. This position requires working some evening hours to attend and prepare for monthly board meetings. Applications will be accepted online only until October 2, 2026, at 4:30 pm. The supplemental questions for this position are very detailed; therefore, it is recommended that you prepare your answers to these in advance. Under the direction of the Superintendent, this role organizes, prepares and drafts agendas for the Board of Education meetings, prepares agenda materials, attends Board meetings and prepares minutes, assures legal documents are stored and filed properly, arranges for various management meetings and preparation of agendas and minutes. The role serves as secretary to the Superintendent, scheduling appointments, obtaining data, and drafting correspondence. It also acts as an office manager responsible for budget preparation and monitoring and filing systems. The position selects, supervises, trains, evaluates, and provides work direction and guidance for assigned Superintendent's Office staff. The Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent reports to the Superintendent and receives limited direction on all but the most sensitive, complex and controversial assignments. An employee in this class must possess good knowledge of District procedures, personnel and organization, public relations skills, and secretarial skills. The incumbent regularly has contact with Board Members, management, community groups, local businesses, elected officials, and the District's legal counsel. The consequence of error is exceptionally high such as improperly releasing confidential data, failure to properly post agendas or list agenda items, and improperly retaining legal documents. The class of Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent is distinguished from the class of Executive Secretary in that the latter does not have responsibility for the full development of the Board of Education materials nor does he/she have the degree of access to the level of personnel or confidential data. Further, the Executive Secretary reports to a Cabinet-level administrator who, in turn, reports directly to the Superintendent whose office is managed by the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent.
