About The Position

The Brearley School, an independent girls' school serving over 770 students K-XII, seeks candidates for an Administrative Assistant to the Office of the Head of School beginning July 1, 2026. The Administrative Assistant to the Office of the Head of School will report to the Head of School, managing special projects and supporting the Executive Assistant. This is a part-time role with a consistent three-day-per-week schedule. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Gmail, Zoom Communications; ability and willingness to learn and apply new software
  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to pay close attention to detail, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and visual communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively
  • High ethical standards, confidentiality, and discretion

Responsibilities

  • Governance & Board Relations: Act as a liaison with the Board of Trustees, managing board meeting agendas, taking minutes at the meetings, briefing materials, and subcommittee reports.
  • Strategic Planning: Support the Head of School in organizing strategic planning events, meetings, and materials.
  • Internal Communication: Ensure information flows smoothly between the executive office and administrative department heads.
  • Faculty Contracts: Coordinate faculty contract process with Chief Human Resources Officer and Dean of Faculty
  • Administrative Support/Other: Work with the Head's Executive Assistant to provide backup support for lunch hours, vacation breaks in the Head's Office, and collaborate on special projects.
  • Planning of the Head's Council and Board of Trustees meetings, retreats, and events
