About The Position

This position is located in the Deputy Secretary's Office at the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services. The mission of the department is to promote public safety and strengthen communities through fair, professional, and responsive corrections services. This role supports public safety through professionalism, resilience, and teamwork. This is a promotional opportunity for current LA Department of Corrections employees with permanent status. The position serves as the confidential assistant to the Deputy Secretary, providing executive-level administrative support with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in administrative services.
  • Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 hours, which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience.
  • Applicants must authorize the HR Office of DPS&C-Corrections Services to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), to be considered for employment, by answering ‘YES’ to the PREA question.
  • Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.
  • Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification.

Responsibilities

  • Processes sensitive and confidential matters for the Deputy Secretary.
  • Researches data and independently drafts responses for the Secretary or the Deputy Secretary's signature.
  • Responsible for the coordination and accurate reporting of the 8 state and 8 parish facilities currently under contract via the Governor's Project Clean-Up Litter Program.
