About The Position

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients. The Administrative Assistant will provide supportive services necessary for unit operations so that optimal quality care can be delivered. The Administrative Assistant has no supervisory responsibility and maintains absolute confidentiality related to employee and patient information that may be viewed while carrying out various functions of the position. The Administrative Assistant works under the supervision of the Nurse Management Team performing essential non-clinical administrative functions on one or more units. They must be competent in interpersonal, technical, cognitive, and communication skills necessary to perform these functions. These functions include payroll, timekeeping, absence compliance, fiscal management, inventory/stock control, documentation, charge entry, and record keeping while serving as a liaison with other departments as well as performing other supportive duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of relevant experience required.
  • Six months experience (600 hours training) using computers to generate a variety of materials ranging from basic to complex.
  • 6 months experience (600 hrs course work) in office practices and procedures.
  • 6 months experience (600 hours course work) in customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or vocational training may be preferred.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Some positions require one year related medical secretarial experience or completion of an associate's degree program with three courses in medical terminology plus 3 mos. experience (300 hours training) in use of word processing equipment, consistent with position description.
  • Some positions require 6 mos. experience (600 hrs course work) in supervision consistent with position description.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive services necessary for unit operations.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality related to employee and patient information.
  • Perform essential non-clinical administrative functions on one or more units.
  • Manage payroll, timekeeping, and absence compliance.
  • Handle fiscal management, inventory/stock control, and documentation.
  • Perform charge entry and record keeping.
  • Serve as a liaison with other departments.
  • Perform other supportive duties assigned.
