About The Position

The Alaska State Commission for Human Rights is seeking an Administrative Assistant 1 to provide advanced clerical and administrative support. This role is crucial in supporting the Commission's mission to eliminate discrimination across Alaska through education and enforcement. Requirements

  • Six months of advanced clerical experience (e.g., Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, or similar with the State of Alaska or equivalent).
  • OR Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience (3 semester or 4 quarter hours of post-secondary education equal to 1 month; 150 hours of vocational education equal to 1 month).

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between the agency hearing unit and Hearing Commissioners.
  • Serve as Commission Secretary by coordinating quarterly meetings, setting up space, and taking minutes.
  • Support the Investigations team by monitoring incoming complaints and managing agency case management systems, including coordination with the EEOC.
  • Serve as a backup for office assistant duties, including mail processing, inventory monitoring, and screening calls.
  • Arrange all transportation, accommodations, and registrations for Commissioners and staff.
  • Coordinate training materials and ensure they arrive at sites on time.
  • Travel across Alaska 1–2 days per quarter to support the mission in various communities.
  • Serve as a notary for office-related documents (requires a limited notary certification).
