About The Position

The City of El Cajon is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and resourceful individual with excellent communication skills to support the Office of the City Clerk. This role requires a thorough understanding of municipal principles, methods, and techniques, along with the ability to exercise professional judgment in developing proposals and recommendations. The City Clerk's office is central to public records, elections, and official City processes, managing the Records Management Program and responding to public records requests. The office is committed to providing excellent customer service and accurate information to empower residents and ensure transparency in local government.

  • Knowledge of software applications
  • Maintain complex records, including filing, storage, retrieval, and disposal of documents
  • Complete discretion and confidentiality
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in public or business administration or a directly related field

Nice To Haves

  • A Graduate degree in a directly related field is highly desirable and preferred.
  • One year in a municipal government setting providing administrative and analytical support (clerical experience does not qualify as administrative).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts sensitive administrative, operational and management analyses, studies and research projects involving City-wide issues, programs, policies and procedures.
  • Assists in planning and program evaluation activities having significant effect on the allocation of human and fiscal resources, and the quality and level of public services.
  • Performs a wide variety of administrative and analytical duties in support of City-wide issues.
  • Analyzes administrative, organizational, and legislative issues.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations on a wide variety of issues to the City Council, City commissions and/or community groups.
  • May represent the City at inter-departmental, inter-governmental and community activities and meetings.
  • May coordinate multi-departmental projects and programs.
  • May administer grants, including the research, development, review and preparation of grant applications.
  • Coordinates special projects as assigned.
  • Serves as a liaison with employees, departments, the public, and other agencies.
  • Provides excellent customer service, general information, and assistance to the public.
