About The Position

This role serves as the subject matter expert for import, export, and security compliance within Rhenus Air & Ocean operations. The officer will partner with regional leadership to ensure business activities align with regulatory requirements and manage compliance risks. Responsibilities include advising on corporate compliance matters, monitoring regulatory developments, engaging with regulatory bodies, managing audits and investigations, and overseeing compliance programs. The role also involves ensuring import/export activities meet regulatory requirements and developing training programs to enhance compliance awareness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Law, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or auditing, with exposure to internal controls and regulatory frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of compliance principles within an operational environment, ideally in transportation or supply chain.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk, identify gaps, and recommend practical, business-aligned solutions.
  • Experience reviewing policies, procedures, and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to navigate complex compliance scenarios.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment, particularly when handling sensitive or confidential matters.
  • Well-organized with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines consistently.
  • Familiarity with operational and financial processes, as well as broader corporate compliance requirements.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

  • Prior experience in logistics or freight forwarding is preferred.
  • Additional languages are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on import, export, and security compliance across Rhenus Air & Ocean operations.
  • Partner with regional leadership to align business activities with regulatory requirements and manage compliance risk.
  • Advise managers and employees on corporate compliance matters, including anti-corruption, fraud, competition law, and conflicts of interest.
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative developments, communicating impacts and required actions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with key regulatory bodies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Transportation Security Administration.
  • Manage audits, inspections, and escalations, ensuring timely resolution of compliance issues.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and support internal investigations as required.
  • Identify risks and implement controls to support compliant and efficient operations.
  • Oversee and implement global and local compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Support contract review and provide compliance input on commercial agreements and major initiatives, including M&A activity.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and ensure consistent execution across the business.
  • Provide regular reporting to senior leadership in line with internal compliance frameworks.
  • Lead compliance for key programs including Indirect Air Carrier, Certified Cargo Screening, and Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism.
  • Oversee bonded warehouse and foreign trade zone compliance, including documentation and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to Federal Maritime Commission regulations and ocean freight compliance standards.
  • Ensure all import and export activities meet applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to strengthen compliance awareness and accountability.
  • Support the rollout of new or updated compliance policies and promote best practices across teams.
