The Department of Corrections (DOC) Human Resource (HR) Office is seeking an Administration and Management Trainee with excellent communication skills, exceptional work ethic, and a readiness to learn. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree, including 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 15 credits in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the entire hiring process for assigned facilities by providing technical advice, support, and guidance to help fill vacancies and ensure a cohesive and consistent approach to hiring activities in alignment with agency policy.
  • Research and evaluate data to determine the best strategies for attracting qualified candidates and provide technical guidance to hiring managers about the options and resources available.
  • Assist with coordination and scheduling of interviews; provide examples and guidance to ensure all questions are work-related and appropriate; and help managers navigate selection processes.
  • Explain application and hiring processes to both internal and external candidates, help identify opportunities for employment and upward mobility, and facilitate onboarding activities.
  • Compare pay scales and requirements to provide hiring managers with pay placement options that ensure employees are compensated in compliance with appropriate processes, procedures, and union contracts.
  • Verify and coordinate final hiring steps including background checks, enterprise position action request (ePAR) processing, and candidate notifications.
  • Review and analyze complaints related to employment or promotion practices; respond to emails and phone calls regarding this and other guidance, support, contact, and analysis provided in this role.
