The primary function of the Administrative Director of Surgical Services is to provide leadership and strategic direction for Surgical Service areas by ensuring that quality, cost-effective, and compassionate care is provided to patients, their families/, and customers in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Michigan Medicine. The director is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, adherence to industry standards, maintenance of accreditation requirements, building essential relationships with employed and private physician groups. In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer Sparrow Hospital, Operational Leadership from the Michigan Medicine system, other Directors, Department Managers, Team Members, and Medical Staff, translates the Hospital and Health System’s strategic vision and plan into a clinical practice vision and plan for Surgical Services. The Administrative Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the management functions of strategic planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and communicating for the Surgical and procedural departments. The Director of Surgical Services is the primary liaison within the University of Michigan Health Sparrow Lansing system for those areas delineated on the Organizational Chart. In addition, the Director represents the Hospital and Health System in nursing operations.
