About The Position

BIO 165, Introduction to Bioinformatics, is an introductory course for bioinformatics majors and students from a variety of different majors in the Life Sciences. Students learn the basics of the Linux operating system, write simple scripts in Python to manipulate DNA sequence data, basic regular expressions, and receive an overview of how bioinformatics is used in a variety of settings and research areas. In Python, the course covers basic concepts such as lists, loops, dictionaries, and functions. All course content has already been prepared (e.g., assignments, exams, and lessons) and the adjunct will work closely with a faculty member in the Department of Biology.

Requirements

  • B.S. in related field (completed by start date).
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Familiarity with basic concepts in molecular biology or genomics.
  • Must relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of employment.
  • Commitment to the Mission of Brigham Young University and the Aims of a BYU Education.
  • Support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrines of the affiliated church.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently employed in bioinformatics.
  • In advanced degree programs in bioinformatics or a related field.
  • Experience in and commitment to mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.
