About The Position

Southwest Minnesota State University invites applications for an ongoing pool of qualified adjunct faculty to support undergraduate instruction in Psychology and Community Psychology & Health Promotion (CPHP) as programmatic needs arise. Adjunct faculty appointed from this pool may be assigned to teach undergraduate courses in fully online asynchronous, hybrid, or on‑campus modalities (based on need and candidate availability). Inclusion in the applicant pool does not guarantee a teaching assignment. Adjunct faculty are responsible for effective instructional delivery and course facilitation across assigned undergraduate courses. Responsibilities include teaching in accordance with approved syllabi, course objectives, and learning outcomes; maintaining an active instructional presence; evaluating student work using established criteria and rubrics; providing timely and constructive feedback; maintaining accurate records of student progress; submitting grades by designated deadlines; and communicating professionally with students and the department or program regarding instructional matters. The SMSU Psychology program maintains a high caliber, individualized, student‑centered approach to teaching and learning across both online and on campus modalities. In keeping Psychology Program expectations, faculty are expected to provide humanized, well‑organized, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences. This includes ensuring course materials are current, clearly structured, accessible, and posted in a timely manner; fostering instructor presence through regular announcements and feedback; fostering student engagement through discussions and activities; responding to student inquiries in a timely and professional manner; monitoring student progress and proactively reaching out to students who may be struggling; upholding clear standards for academic integrity; and using instructional technologies to support accessibility, engagement, and student learning.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate in Psychology or a closely related APA designated subfield/division
  • Educational background and training as related to specific course(s) being taught
  • Experience or demonstrated readiness to teach in fully online asynchronous or synchronous, hybrid, or on campus modalities.
  • Experience or interest in applying equitable and inclusive practices in fully online asynchronous or synchronous, hybrid, and/or on campus modalities
  • Experience or capacity to maintain a highly active instructional presence in fully online asynchronous or synchronous, hybrid, and/or on campus modalities
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States by the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in undergraduate teaching, including having served as primary instructor of record for at least one psychology course.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing inclusive, student centered best teaching practices in online and/or on campus environments
  • For online instructors: Demonstrated abilities/competence in instructional technology, including online asynchronous instruction.
