About The Position

Conduct instruction in ENGL 1113 co-requisite courses. In addition to teaching the regular ENGL 1113 course, instructors will provide individualized virtual conferencing with 10 co-requisite students. Instructors may determine their own conferencing schedules but should expect to spend an average of 1–2 hours per week in these individual sessions. Instructors receive an additional 2 credit hours of compensation for teaching the co-requisite course. Instructors will support students in developing critical-thinking, academic, and subject-matter skills that contribute to their success in the course and their development as engaged and positive members of the community.

Requirements

• Master's in English or related discipline or Master’s Degree with 18 hours in English required
• Minimum two (2) years teaching and classroom management experience.
• Must have educational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning Commission’s publication on Determining Qualified Faculty, and provide leadership in an academic discipline and/or degree program.
• Programs with discipline-specific external accreditation may have more stringent training and experience requirements.
• Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
• Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English.
• Requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
• Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and Internet.
• Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

• Experience working with underprepared students and/or providing individualized student support through tutoring, academic coaching, or similar experiences.

Responsibilities

• Maintain student and course records with updates on the learning management system.
• Maintain and file current course outlines, objectives and grading procedures for all courses.
• Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
• Completes all mandatory training.
• Fulfill all requirements as noted in the Adjunct Handbook.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
