About The Position

The Department of Literature, Journalism, Writing, and Languages at Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU), a Christian liberal arts university in the evangelical, Wesleyan tradition, is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position. PLNU is committed to providing higher education in a vibrant Christian environment that engages and challenges minds, models and forms character, and expresses service as an expression of faith. This is an in-person teaching position with responsibilities beginning January 2027, including teaching a variety of courses in literature, journalism, writing, and modern languages. The number of adjunct instructors hired varies per semester based on departmental needs. Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only and must reapply for subsequent years. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a specified discipline
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate/graduate teaching
  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university
  • Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement
  • Agreement to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant
  • Successful completion of a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate preferred
  • A minimum of one year teaching experience
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities

Benefits

  • Adjunct pay range: $5,013 - $6,684 for a 3-unit full semester appointment (actual salary determined by units)
