About The Position

The School of Behavioral & Social Sciences at PLNU is seeking candidates for an adjunct teaching position in sociology and/or criminal justice. PLNU is a Christian liberal arts university in the evangelical, Wesleyan tradition, committed to providing higher education in a vibrant Christian environment that engages minds, models character, and fosters service as an expression of faith. The university encourages applications from diverse faculty skilled in teaching and scholarship. This position involves teaching one or more courses in sociology and/or criminal justice, including general education and service courses, with responsibilities beginning Fall 2026, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027. The role also includes engaging in personal scholarship and scholarship with students, advising students academically, spiritually, and socially, participating in departmental activities and governance, serving on university faculty committees, and preparing students for their post-graduate careers and vocational calling.

Requirements

  • MA or Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Thorough commitment to the concept of Christian liberal arts education and a desire to work in a Christian university.
  • Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the university and its sponsoring denomination.
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement.
  • Agree to live in agreement with PLNU’s Community Life Covenant.
  • Successful completion of a background check.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in the area of sociology and/or criminal justice including some general education and service courses.
  • Work strategically with diverse colleagues, students, parents and community members.
  • Engage in personal scholarship and scholarship with students (where possible).
  • Advise students academically, spiritually, and socially.
  • Participate in departmental activities and governance.
  • Serve on university faculty committees/working groups and perform other normal faculty duties.
  • Contribute in preparing students for their post graduate career and finding who they are called to be.
