The Department of Mathematics in the College of Science at Northeastern-NYC seeks an adjunct part-time lecturer to teach MATH 1231, Calculus for Business and Economics, during the Spring 2027 semester, January 13 through May 2, 2027. This is a 4-credit course with a roster capped at 18 students. Classes meet on-site at the NU-NYC campus on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 9:40 AM. Total compensation for the course is $6,284.40, at a rate of $1,571.10 per credit. The course covers differential calculus, including derivatives of power, exponential, logarithmic, and logistic functions, and their use in modeling and estimating rates of change, optimization, and marginal analysis. Integral calculus is applied to accumulation functions and future value. The course emphasizes realistic business and economics problems, developing mathematical models from raw business data, and translating mathematical results into verbal expressions appropriate for business settings. A graphing calculator is used. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; the position does not provide work visa sponsorship. The employer notes that a four-credit course typically entails an estimated weekly commitment of 13.5 hours, which may not meet the 20-hour-per-week STEM OPT requirement. Application materials include a CV or resume, a cover letter, and contact information for three references. Questions may be directed to Dr. Ken Ching.
