The ability to pass a background screening process and obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary to be employed by Gila Community College. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ability to perform generally expected instructional/teaching activities through various mediums including, but not limited to, in-person, web-based, or hybrid. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate the subject matter using a variety of methods to accommodate different learning styles that enhances the opportunity of students to achieve the learning outcomes expected. Effective record-keeping strategies that comply with College directives and provide timely and correct information to students. Ability to provide effective assistance in ancillary educational programs and services as may be needed by the College to enhance the educational opportunities and experiences for students. Additional position specific essential functions are listed below. LEVEL OF SUPERVISION OR INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT Performs duties under moderate supervision from higher-level academic administrators or full-time faculty to ensure cohesive and consistent academic rigor and quality of programs, courses, and educational opportunities provided. Exercise independent decision making concerning the class environment and instructional methods/delivery within the umbrella of academic freedom and the College’s quality education guidance and directives. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Adjunct faculty are expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. Teach at least one (1) but not more than nine (9) classroom contact hours per week as required by the official course outline(s) and/or College catalog, during any given semester. Assignments of more than nine (9) classroom contact hours per semester must be approved by the College President or appropriate personnel designated by the College President. Develop, review, and update courses and curriculum collaboratively with faculty and academic administration. Develop and update informative, standardized syllabus for student guidance. Develop and administer appropriate tools and measures for assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program levels. Update course delivery and teaching methods based on evaluation of objectives assessed as needed. Verify attendance and participation as directed by academic administration. Submit complete and accurate rolls and grades by specified deadlines. Adjunct faculty shall attend certain Fall and Spring convocation and planning activities, certain staff meetings, and/or continuing education, in-service training, continuous improvement and/or accreditation activities as directed by the College administrator responsible for their supervision. Provide one-on-one student tutoring as needed for student success, provide advice or counsel if necessary to students in their classes, and foster student engagement and success. With approval of the appropriate College administrator, adjunct faculty may voluntarily serve on College committees and sponsor a club or organization, either with or without remuneration. Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed. ALLIED HEALTH ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR SPECIFIC Teach a variety of community college Allied Health courses that may include, but not be limited to: Nursing Assistant, Basic Healthcare, Basic Life Support, CPR, Medical Terminology, Math for Medications, Pharmacology, Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, Medical Dosage Calculations, PALS, ACLS, and Nutrition. Teach students in the Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology (NAVIT) program which includes teaching outside the traditional GCC schedule. Teach early morning, late afternoon, evening, weekend, web-based, ITV, and summer courses, as necessary. Secure clinical sites at hospitals and health care agencies and develop contracts to provide clinical experiences for students. Ensures all regulatory standards are being met. Establishes and maintains program documentation and records. In conjunction with faculty, prepares periodic accreditation reports and documents as required by relevant, national accreditation agencies and the State Board of Nursing. A combination of education, training and experience that meets the appropriate credentialing guidelines for the instructional area. Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card, as necessary. Hold a current, registered nurse license that is active and in good standing under A.R.S. Title 32, Chapter 15 and provide documentation of a minimum of one-year full time or 1500 hours employment providing direct care as a registered nurse in any setting. At least one of the following: Successful completion of a three-semester credit course on adult teaching and learning concepts offered by an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Completion of a 40-hour continuing education program in adult teaching and learning concepts that was awarded continuing education credit at an accredited organization. One year of full time or 1500 hours experience teaching adults as a faculty member or clinical educator. One year of full time or 1500 hours experience supervising nursing assistants, either in addition to or concurrent with the one year of experience. Demonstrate evidence of commitment to following rules and guidelines. Experience teaching a variety of Allied Health courses. Demonstrated proficiency utilizing computer and multimedia technology in an instructional setting. Ability to interact effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of ability. Willing and able to teach a non-traditional schedule that may include early morning, late afternoon, evening, weekend, and summer courses. Ability to work well with other faculty in the design and implementation of curriculum and assessment. Self-motivated. Display willingness to make decisions; Exhibit sound and accurate judgment; Include appropriate people in decision-making process.
