About The Position

The Adjunct Office Administration/Medical Office Administration Instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction to Office Administration/Medical Office Administration students through the use of seated and/or online courses to promote successful completion of degree requirements. Lenoir Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis on excellence in classroom instruction. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College: Mastery of Subject Matter, Teaching Performance, Evaluation of Student Learning, Support of College Policies and Procedures, Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities, and Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an institution accredited by a federally recognized institutional accreditor in office administration, health information, business administration, or computer information technology.
  • Demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in health care, health information, health information services, business administration, business education, or computer information technology.
  • Previous teaching experience at a community college or university.
  • Experience using instructional technologies.
  • Experience teaching online courses.
  • General knowledge of medical office administration and/or office administration courses.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality instruction to Office Administration/Medical Office Administration students through seated and/or online courses.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in Mastery of Subject Matter, Teaching Performance, Evaluation of Student Learning, Support of College Policies and Procedures, Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities, and Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs.
  • Teach a course load appropriate to the teaching discipline.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter.
  • Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Employ instructional technology, such as the Internet and interactive technology.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives.
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress.
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades.
  • Teach classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment.
  • Teach credit or non-credit courses as needed.
  • Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Substitute for other instructors in the teaching discipline.
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources.
  • Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual.
  • Participate in meetings and events as required.
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for information.
  • Support both part-time and full-time colleagues.
  • Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes.
  • Participate in graduation ceremonies.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
  • Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans.
  • Contribute to planning and development processes.
  • Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College.
  • Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, mission, and plans of the College.
  • Participate in the marketing, recruitment, and retention of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
