About The Position

The John R. Post School of Engineering at Alvernia University is seeking to build an adjunct faculty pool for Mechanical Engineering. The university is looking for professionals to teach both lecture and laboratory courses in person at their Reading, Pennsylvania campus. Most engineering courses are held at the John R. Post Center, 401 Penn Street, Reading, PA, though some activities may utilize other Alvernia Reading locations. This role requires availability for weekday daytime teaching, primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., and the ability to commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the entire semester. Remote or hybrid teaching options are not available for these positions. Hired candidates will be placed in the adjunct pool and may receive separate contracts for individual courses as needs arise. Appointment to the pool does not guarantee a course assignment. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to accept employment without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • Must be available for weekday daytime teaching, primarily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
  • Must be able to commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the full semester.

Nice To Haves

  • Practicing engineers and technical professionals who can bring current industry experience into the classroom.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Approximately five or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • Comparable combinations of advanced education, professional licensure, specialized expertise, industry experience, research, and teaching.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Teach lecture and laboratory courses in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Commit to a recurring weekday schedule for the full semester.
  • Bring current industry experience into the classroom (preferred).
