About The Position

The Department of Literature and Communication Arts at the University of Mount Union is seeking a part-time instructor for creative writing courses. The initial need is for the fall of 2026, with potential for extension into the spring of 2027 and beyond. The fall semester requires teaching upper-division poetry writing and an introduction to creative writing (multi-genre) course. The fall courses are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:15 AM to 1:35 PM and already have students enrolled. However, the days and times for subsequent semesters are negotiable. This is a part-time, non-tenured position.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in English or Writing
  • A minimum of 18 graduate semester credits in a discipline relevant to the area in which they will be teaching

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at the college-level
  • A record of successful publication in at least one creative genre
  • Knowledge and use of Learning Management Systems (specifically D2L Brightspace)
  • The ability to teach during the day is preferred
  • Online, evening, or hybrid teaching may be an option

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in accordance with University and Department defined policies
  • Maintain office hours and communicate with students on an ongoing basis
  • Maintain accurate electronic records as per University and Department program requirements
  • Submit all records as required
  • Keep current in the discipline/area of teaching
  • Participation in training and technologies as necessary to facilitate course delivery
  • Complete assigned compliance training as communicated by the University
