About The Position

The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Mechanics at the University of Arizona is seeking an Adjunct Lecturer to teach its senior capstone design sequence. This sequence includes CE 408A, Issues Civil Engr Practice, and CE 408B, CE Senior Capstone Design, for the fall and spring semesters of the 2026-27 academic year. The position is anticipated to be 0.0625 - 0.25 FTE for the full academic year. CE 408A covers non-technical aspects of design practice, such as organizational types, financial management, contract law, dispute resolution, and professional ethics. The instructor will introduce the design project, form teams, and monitor progress. CE 408B focuses on technical lectures to support student design efforts, with students submitting intermediate and final design reviews. The instructor will manage student progress and organize final review panels. Industry practitioners may contribute expertise. Visa sponsorship is not available. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must have a PE license
  • Must demonstrate experience, a strong working knowledge and excellence in Civil Engineering business

Nice To Haves

  • A record of service to the profession, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with practitioners is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the university level with preference to having taught this or a similar course.

Responsibilities

  • Three hours of lecture per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:15pm).
  • Prepare and assign various assignments (e.g., homework, quizzes, etc) to complement and assess team learning activities.
  • Coordinate with grader that will help grading assignments.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other practitioner experts as needed.
  • Be accessible by students in office hours that may meet on campus or via phone/Zoom during their instructional period. Also, the lecturer should be available via email throughout the week.
  • Enter grades into the UA online system.
