About The Position

KyCAD is seeking an Adjunct Lecturer of Studio Art for a six-week course, STU 230: Making Methods: The Artisan: Ceramics, during Fall 2026, Session 2 (October 13-November 20, M-R 1:30-5pm). This course will introduce students to essential sculptural practice skills through traditional processes and media such as metal fabrication, woodworking, and mold-making, with a historical, craft-based approach. The class will emphasize hand-building techniques and may incorporate wheel throwing as appropriate, but not as the primary focus. The concept of "thinking as making" will be introduced, and students will work with representations of the natural world, studying the arts and crafts movement as background. The position is open to internal and external applicants and reports to the Chair of Studio Art.

Requirements

  • Master of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art or Ceramics or master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate course credit hours in ceramics or recognized professional accomplishments in related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Evidence of teaching ability, curricular development, and student mentorship.
  • Sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse student populations.

  • Preferred teaching experience: 3 years

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach to the objectives of the approved course.
  • Submit syllabi and other instructional materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain records of student academic progress and attendance, evaluate the level of achievement, and assign grades for the program.
  • Complete an end-of-term art assessment form for the course.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and, when appropriate, use the Academic Alert notification process.
  • Assess student work in a timely manner and submit course grades by the posted deadlines.
  • Incorporate inclusive and effective teaching methods/styles that support successful learning appropriate to a diverse student population.
  • Infuse multicultural and diverse perspectives into the instructional process as appropriate and conduct classes in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual and cultural differences.
  • Model and cultivate open-minded inquiry, an appreciation for diverse perspectives, and creative problem-solving.
  • Develop and maintain healthy and positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administration.
  • Embrace and enhance the college's culture to help ensure continued engagement, motivation, and success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits
