The Kentucky College of Art + Design (KyCAD) is hiring an Adjunct Lecturer of Natural Sciences to teach NS 101: Introduction to Natural Sciences during Spring 2027, Session 4. The six-week course runs January 11 through February 19, Monday through Thursday, from 10:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The position is open to internal and external applicants and reports under the direction of the VPAA. Compensation is $4,000 per three-credit course. NS 101 surveys the contributions of natural science to contemporary knowledge by examining the scientific method and the goals of scientific investigation. Students consider science as a cultural practice and study how observation, questioning, hypothesis, experimentation, and analysis contribute to a scientific worldview. Through case studies and controversies in the physical and life sciences, students learn foundational language, methods, and debates in natural science. They use scientific studies, statistics, graphs, and models to gather, analyze, and reason with natural-scientific data. The course is three credits and requires FYS 101: First Year Writing Seminar as a prerequisite. The lecturer develops and teaches the approved curriculum, provides timely instructional materials and assessments, maintains student progress and attendance records, evaluates student achievement, and submits grades by the deadline. The lecturer communicates regularly with students, uses inclusive teaching approaches appropriate to a diverse student population, and supports open-minded inquiry, diverse perspectives, and creative problem-solving. Other duties may be assigned. KyCAD is an independent, licensed college offering a BFA in studio art and describes itself as the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s only four-year independent college of Art and Design. The college emphasizes an inclusive and welcoming environment, respect for individual and cultural differences, and employee well-being. Applicants submit a letter of interest, full curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three professional references through the applicant portal. Applications are reviewed until the position is filled. A selected candidate must complete pre-employment screenings, which may include a national background check, and online FERPA training.
