About The Position

Benedictine University is seeking an Adjunct Lecturer for British Literature to teach British Literature I, covering literature from the Anglo-Saxon era to the 18th century. This course will enroll a mix of English majors and non-majors fulfilling a general education requirement, with an expected enrollment of 30-40 students. The course will be offered in an online asynchronous format, making experience in designing and teaching in this modality essential. Familiarity with the Brightspace/D2L learning management system is also an asset. The class starts Monday, August 31, and concludes Friday, December 11, with final exam week running December 14-18.

Requirements

  • Doctoral or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience teaching literature.
  • Experience designing courses for and teaching in an online asynchronous modality.
  • Ability to talk or hear.
  • Ability to use hands to touch, handle or feel.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to use a computer screen and phone.
  • Ability to provide customer service.
  • Ability to bend.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Compliance with campus specific guidelines for pandemic protocols.
  • Completion of all University-specific and/or OSHA related training.

Nice To Haves

  • Background teaching representative works from the Anglo-Saxon era to the 18th century (e.g., Beowulf, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Behn).
  • Familiarity with the Brightspace/D2L learning management system.
