Hood College invites qualified candidates to serve as adjunct faculty in the Department of Economics and Business Administration (EBA), within the Delaplaine School of Business and Communication. Instructors may teach in accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, general management, human resource management, international business, marketing and selling, or sports management. The posting addresses immediate instructional needs and builds a pool of qualified candidates for future teaching opportunities. Adjunct faculty typically teach one or two courses per semester, depending on departmental needs and instructor availability. Courses may be undergraduate or MBA-level and are assigned according to the instructor’s academic qualifications, professional expertise, and departmental instructional needs. Current priority areas include finance and investments, investment analysis, and sales and marketing. The department welcomes accomplished professionals interested in bringing industry experience into the classroom, as well as advanced doctoral candidates seeking to expand their college-level teaching experience. The adjunct instructor teaches assigned courses and prepares syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, assessments, and other course materials in line with departmental and College expectations. The role provides high-quality instruction connecting academic concepts with current professional practices, supports engaging and inclusive student-centered learning, evaluates student performance and provides timely, constructive feedback, communicates appropriately with students and departmental colleagues, follows academic policies, and completes other instructional duties related to assigned courses. Candidates should value diversity, equity, and inclusion; have strong organizational and communication skills; and be able to collaborate with campus partners in support of Hood College’s student-centered liberal arts mission. Appropriate academic and/or professional qualifications in the teaching discipline are required. Preferred qualifications include a relevant doctorate, or a relevant master’s degree or MBA combined with significant professional experience. Relevant accounting and finance credentials are highly valued. College-level teaching experience is preferred, and prior teaching at Hood College is an asset. The department will also consider applicants with substantial industry expertise who can translate it effectively into undergraduate or graduate instruction. The work involves interaction with students, employees, and the public in an environment with usually moderate noise. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use fingers and hands, reach, talk, and hear; sitting is also required. Occasional standing and lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds may be required. Salary is $1,075 per credit for undergraduate courses and $1,215 per credit for graduate courses. These temporary positions are not benefits-eligible, except for participation in Hood’s Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity plan and paid Maryland sick leave.
