Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in Geology or a closely related area and one year of teaching or closely related professional experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Geology or a closely related area and two years of teaching or closely related professional experience.
  • Broad knowledge of appropriate course material of classes taught.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision making skills.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate student course work and classroom performance.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course assigned; possibly including Introduction to Geology, Introduction to Geology Lab, Introduction to Oceanography, Introduction to Oceanography Lab, and Introduction to Meteorology.
  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in the classroom through demonstration, discussion, visual aid, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluates instructional materials, including course outlines, syllabi, exams, visual aids, and study guides as necessary.
  • Is available for student consultation and attends faculty meetings as assigned.
