About The Position

The Department of Mathematics at Virginia Tech invites applications for a pool of qualified adjunct instructors to teach undergraduate mathematics courses on a part-time, semester-by-semester basis. Appointments are made as departmental instructional needs arise and are contingent upon enrollment, funding, and curriculum requirements.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in mathematics or a related discipline by date of hire, with a minimum of 18 semester hours of graduate courses in mathematics.
  • Experience teaching college-level mathematics courses.
  • Effective communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching college-level courses as the primary instructor.
  • Documented outstanding effectiveness teaching in a curriculum, like that offered by Virginia Tech Mathematics Department, designed to serve a large, diverse group of university students in engineering and the sciences.
  • Willingness and ability to teach calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra, or differential equations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate mathematics courses on a part-time, semester-by-semester basis.
