About The Position

The Department of Humanities at Columbia College seeks an adjunct (part-time) instructor to teach HIST 121: American History to 1877 during the Spring 2027 semester. This is a U.S. history class covering 1877 to the present day. It is an in-seat, synchronous, general education class taught on our home campus in Columbia, Missouri. Classes start on 11 January, and this class meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 10:10 to 11:05 a.m.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in History
  • Graduate coursework in U.S. history content
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Submit graduate transcripts with application materials
  • Submit an updated CV
  • Submit an application letter which discusses teaching experience and degree information
  • Satisfactory criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • College teaching experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Teach HIST 121: American History to 1877
  • Report any information received about crimes occurring on or near campus to the Director of Campus Safety.
