About The Position

The University of Olivet, a liberal arts institution with an historical commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice, seeks applications for the position of Adjunct Professor for the Online Teaching Pathway Program. We seek passionate, student-centered educators who are committed to preparing the next generation of teachers through innovative, engaging, and supportive online instruction. Adjunct faculty members will teach undergraduate courses within the Online B.A. in Integrative Studies – Teaching Pathway program. Courses are delivered fully online in an accelerated format and serve adult learners pursuing careers in education. Adjunct faculty members are expected to foster a supportive learning environment, facilitate meaningful discussions, provide timely and constructive feedback, and mentor students as they progress toward becoming effective educators. Students from underrepresented minorities constitute 26% of the current student body, with almost 20% of the student body identifying as African American. Approximately half of the student body is Pell grant eligible. Members of historically underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Successful teaching experience in PreK–12.
  • Strong commitment to student success and adult learners.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology into instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in Education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in higher education, particularly in online environments.
  • Experience working within teacher preparation programs.
  • Experience with alternative certification pathways.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising teacher candidates during field experiences or clinical practice.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, particularly Canvas.
  • Experience supporting adult learners in online settings.
  • Passion for preparing future educators.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

  • Ability to foster meaningful relationships with students in an online environment.

  • Knowledge of teacher certification and accreditation requirements, including state-specific educator preparation standards and licensure pathways.
  • Knowledge of teacher certification processes in one or more of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, and Texas.
  • Experience working with state departments of education, alternative certification programs, or educator preparation accreditation processes within these states.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one or more undergraduate courses within the Online B.A. in Integrative Studies – Teaching Pathway program.
  • Create engaging learning experiences that foster student success while supporting candidates as they work toward becoming highly effective classroom teachers.
  • Host a synchronous session weekly for each class.
  • Facilitate engaging and interactive learning experiences through the University's Learning Management System.
  • Maintain regular and substantive interaction with students through announcements, discussion forums, email communication, and virtual meetings.
  • Evaluate student work in a timely manner and provide meaningful, constructive feedback that promotes growth and learning.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Communicate concerns regarding student success to appropriate university personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and grades.
  • Participate in required faculty orientation and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with program leadership and colleagues to ensure program quality.
  • Uphold all University policies, procedures, and mission-driven expectations.
