About The Position

Shorter University’s Ware School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for qualified adjunct/part-time instructors to teach undergraduate chemistry courses. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong disciplinary expertise, effective teaching ability, and a commitment to student learning aligned with the institution’s mission.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field, OR Master’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, OR Master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Chemistry
• Agreement with Shorter University’s Mission, Lifestyle Statement, and Statement of Faith
• Graduate transcripts documenting relevant coursework (official transcripts required upon hire)
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated content expertise appropriate for undergraduate instruction

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience teaching undergraduate courses
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (e.g. Canvas)
• Commitment to engaging and ethical teaching practices

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate chemistry courses such as: General Chemistry Lectures, General Chemistry Laboratory, Upper-level Chemistry/Biochemistry courses as needed
• Deliver instruction consistent with approved course outcomes and departmental expectations
• Assess student learning and provide timely, constructive feedback
• Maintain regular communication with students (including timely response to inquiries)
• Submit grades, attendance, and required assessment documentation by institutional deadlines
• Support learning outcomes assessment and accreditation processes as requested
• Adhere to institutional policies (e.g. FERPA) and academic integrity standards
• Contribute to a positive learning environment that supports student success and retention
