About The Position

The position will report to the Transportation Program Director and will be responsible for classroom and/or behind the wheel instruction of students in the Commercial Driving Program. Adjunct faculty serve as temporary part-time faculty and are appointed as needed on an ongoing basis. The primary duty is effective teaching and recordkeeping associated with college-level career technical educational courses. San Juan College may approve remote or hybrid work for adjunct employees within New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas (states subject to change at any time). All requests for remote work must be approved in advance by the Dean and Human Resources. Remote work options for locations outside of the United States are not permitted.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and current CDL Licensure with five years’ experience in Commercial Driving industry as an operator required.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of New Mexico for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Must be able to pass drug screening test and successfully complete Defensive Driving Course.
  • Completion of a satisfactory background check is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree with three years’ experience in Commercial Driving industry as an operator preferred.
  • Additional experience in the field along with demonstrable teaching ability highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • The instructor will share responsibilities with other members of the department for program and curriculum development, maintaining a record system for student achievement, and delivering /creating customized training for local industry.
  • As assigned, the position will also support CDL State of New Mexico Examiners Program.
  • As assigned, prepares and teaches courses; delivers lectures, assignments and tests; evaluates and records student performance; teaches hands-on driving skills in an operational semi-truck, tutors and mentors students.
  • Submits grades by deadline.
  • Keeps current e-log and paper log books.
  • Resolves student issues and concerns or refers to Transportation Program Director.
  • Performs related duties.
