About The Position

This position involves providing instruction to students in HVAC/R Program courses, preparing instructional materials, and operating relevant technology. The role also includes creating teaching aids, developing and updating courses to align with industry standards, and maintaining classroom/laboratory facilities. Additionally, the instructor is responsible for maintaining student records, assisting with supply and equipment purchases, and staying technically competent through professional development. The position requires participation in campus activities, acting as a technical advisor to students, and developing an individualized development plan for new instructors. Faculty are also required to complete professional development activities and annual safety training. Other duties include substitute teaching, budget assistance, program promotion, student recruitment support, facility security, and assisting in supervising student help. Participation in strategic planning and assessment processes is also required. Requirements

  • AAS Degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology or a directly related field, and 2 years of current work experience in the related field.
  • OR Bachelor’s Degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology or related field.
  • OR Ten (10) years of relevant work experience and the ability to complete an AAS degree in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology within 2 years of hire.
  • EPA certification or obtained by the date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engaged instruction to a diverse student population in the HVAC /R Program.
  • Prepare necessary instructional materials, including lesson plans, instruction sheets, and tests.
  • Determine the appropriate material to be covered in the courses assigned to teach.
  • Operate and utilize appropriate audio-visual and multimedia equipment and software.
  • Create visual communication presentations, such as PowerPoint, and use an interactive projector.
  • Develop instructional aids on the computer and compile a library of videos to supplement instructional techniques.
  • Share responsibility for developing new courses and updating existing courses to keep the HVAC /R program current with industry standards.
  • Share responsibility for the maintenance of all instructional facilities, equipment, and program classrooms.
  • Maintain permanent student records on courses taught and enforce college policies regarding attendance, grading, student achievement, and privacy.
  • Use instructional online course management software (Canvas) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Assist with the purchase of instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Attend seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, educational workshops, or other related training sessions to stay technically competent.
  • Participate in college activities related to professional development, diversity, and safety.
  • Attend, participate, and support program activities (e.e., workforce leadership team meetings, Discovery Days, division meetings, etc.) and College activities and teams as requested.
  • Advise HVAC /R program students on academic standing, support, and college policies and procedures.
  • Assist students in selecting and registering for courses.
  • Advise students on their academic progress and courses needed for graduation.
  • Serve as the first line of communication between students and College staff.
  • Develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Associate Dean.
  • Compile three (3) different professional development activities during the year.
  • Complete all annual Safety Training as required by the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including substitute teaching, assisting in budget development, advising the program director, supporting the College and program, supporting student recruitment, assisting in the security of facilities and equipment, and assisting in supervising student help.
  • Participate in determining and updating the Strategic Plan and completion of the annual Assessment process.
