About The Position

The College of Business at Ferris State University seeks a diverse group of outstanding applicants to teach undergraduate courses in the Hospitality Management program face-to-face and/or mixed delivery. The College of Business is dedicated to providing a learning experience that instills in its students the knowledge, competencies, and skills for entry-level employment and career advancement in their chosen careers. To facilitate this, faculty are expected to be student-oriented and able to integrate current technology into the learning environment. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State's sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start date of this position is August 2026. The selected candidate for this position must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future. The university will not assist with any F-1 EADs, OPT, H1B, etc.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with a combined experience of 4 years or more in any of the following: operations management, coaching, teaching and/or golf professional experience OR A bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience directly related to the courses taught, including golf operations, coaching, teaching, and/or golf professional experience.
  • Class A PGA member in good standing.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
  • Must reside in Michigan by the first day of employment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire without employer assistance or sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching hospitality courses, specifically club management and/or operations-related courses.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Hospitality Management program face-to-face and/or on-line/mixed delivery.
  • Part-time teaching and related responsibilities; utilizing face-to-face, blended, and/or online modes of delivery; delivery on or off campus; assuring/improving learning through assessment; close consultation with program faculty, as well as training via the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • Faculty members also have professional responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to, regularly scheduled office hours (at times convenient for students) and participation in traditional academic functions (e.g., reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time).
  • Candidates are expected to foster a meaningful learning experience for our students, and faculty are expected to be student-oriented, advise, and integrate current technology into the learning environment.
  • Additionally, faculty will participate in collaborative efforts to advance curricular initiatives, assess student learning, and further develop programmatic enhancements.
  • Specifically, we expect the candidate to be willing to engage students outside the classroom, support and expand our existing academic initiatives, and mentor students beyond a traditional academic advising role.
  • In support of teaching, candidates will engage in scholarly/professional activities and participate in department, college, and university committees.
  • Off-campus and online teaching may be required.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
  • Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
  • Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
  • Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
