About The Position

Edison State Community College is seeking qualified and student-centered candidates for the part-time position of Adjunct Instructor for Financial Accounting. Part-time faculty are employed to provide instruction based on the teaching needs of the College. Adjunct faculty are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student learning, and contributing to the academic mission of the Business, Accounting, and Finance programs. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, online, or hybrid sections. To be considered, candidates should include a cover letter, resume, and transcripts with their online application. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Three or more years of professional accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of foundational accounting principles, financial reporting, and current professional standards.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to support diverse learners.
  • Must be able to meet scheduled class times and maintain regular communication with students.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred in Accounting or a Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Teaching or training experience preferred.
  • College‑level teaching experience, particularly at the community college level.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
  • Familiarity with Blackboard or comparable LMS platforms.
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and a commitment to student success.
  • Teaching experience at a community college is desirable.
  • Ability to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
  • Strong content expertise in financial accounting and related business concepts.
  • Ability to use technology to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to accreditation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction and conduct classes in accordance with the philosophy of the college and within the scope of a defined course of study.
  • Help students with coursework.
  • Meet all administrative timelines and complete the submission of required documents and reports.
  • Deliver engaging, outcomes‑aligned instruction in Financial Accounting and related introductory accounting courses.
  • Develop and maintain a course syllabus consistent with Edison State standards and program outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials, assignments, and assessments that support student mastery of learning objectives.
  • Evaluate student performance in a timely, consistent, and constructive manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and course documentation in accordance with college policies.
  • Provide appropriate support, guidance, and feedback to students to promote academic success.
  • Utilize the College’s learning management system (Blackboard) and required instructional technologies.
  • Participate in required orientation, training, and compliance activities.
  • Maintain professional standards of practice and uphold the mission and values of Edison State.
  • Can participate in professional development activities.
  • Can serve on committees.
  • Perform such other related duties as the appropriate dean or the chief academic officer may assign for the good of the College.

Benefits

  • Adjuncts are paid at a special contract hour rate of pay starting at $636 per contract hour. Increases are given based on cumulative hours taught at the College.
  • Edison State Community College participates in the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS). Based upon the Ohio Revised Code, 14% of an Edison State employee's gross salary is deposited into their individual STRS account. The college contributes an additional 14% which is not figured into the employee's base salary.
  • Adjunct instructors are also eligible to participate in 403 (b) tax deferred annuity which is not cost-shared by the college.
  • Edison State employees receive 100% of their instructional fees waived for any Edison State courses they take.
  • Dependents (spouse or children) of adjunct instructors at Edison State receive a partial waiver based upon the number of credit hours the instructor is teaching.
  • The college also provides an on-site fitness center to employees, students and the community at no charge.
