About The Position

Bergen Community College is seeking adjunct faculty for the Spring 2027 semester in the Division of Humanities. This role involves teaching various courses within the Communications, English, and Philosophy and Religion departments. The college is committed to fostering responsible communities and individuals through effective and ethical communication, a strong foundation in liberal arts, and critical thinking skills. Adjunct faculty will contribute to student development by preparing them for advanced studies and professional careers.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Speech/Interpersonal Communication for Communication courses.
• At least one year of college teaching experience for Communication courses.
• Master’s degree in English, English Education, Reading or related field for English Basic Skills.
• At least one year of experience teaching developmental English to diverse populations, preferably at a community college.
• Master’s degree in English, Composition/Rhetoric, Literature, or related field for English Composition & Literature.
• At least one year of experience teaching college-level English composition to diverse populations, preferably in a community college.
• Master’s degree in ESL, Linguistics, English Education, Reading or related field for ESL.
• At least one year of experience teaching ESL to diverse populations, preferably at a community college.
• Master’s degree in Philosophy for Philosophy and Religion courses.
• Experience teaching college-level philosophy to diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

• Community college teaching experience for Philosophy and Religion.
• Ability to teach formal and informal logic for Philosophy and Religion.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in Communication (COM 100 Speech Communication, COM 102 Public Speaking).
• Teach courses in English Basic Skills.
• Teach courses in English Composition & Literature.
• Teach courses in English as a Second Language (ESL).
• Teach courses in Philosophy and Religion.
• Prepare students for advanced undergraduate and graduate studies in communication.
• Provide students with a solid foundation in liberal arts education.
• Introduce students to the principles of logical thinking, argumentation, and philosophical problems.
• Introduce students to the methods of theology and the study of world religions.
